Livestreaming is Going Nowhere

From Twitch to YouTube to TikTok — as far as the eye can see, streamers are tapping into the real-time engagement that livestreaming uniquely offers.

What’s even more exciting is its cross-genre appeal. From 24/7 live feeds of the International Space Station to TED Talks that leave viewers feeling like they’ve just learned something meaningful, livestreaming has proven its value in reaching large, diverse audiences.

Today, livestreaming offers the kind of global reach once reserved for traditional broadcasters like the BBC, CNN, or Bloomberg. And as this technology continues to evolve and be embraced globally, the line between livestream and broadcast is beginning to blur.

So if livestreaming is a more cost-effective alternative to traditional broadcasting — with similar distribution potential and endless integration opportunities — why are some companies still hesitant to explore it?

We believe the answer lies somewhere between risk and reliability.

But here’s the truth: livestreaming isn’t a risk — it’s an opportunity.

Used effectively, it delivers a level of transparency and authenticity that no other format can match.

With that in mind, we’ve put together a checklist of considerations we believe every livestream provider should make before delivering a paid service — to ensure a stream that’s as robust as it is sleek.

Leave Room for the Unexpected

Being live is like theatre — anything can happen, and often does. The magic lies in being ready for it.

As a production company, we know that delivering a livestream means aiming for seamless execution — but we also understand that, just like a live performance, the unexpected is part of the process.

That’s why preparation is everything. The difference between stress and confidence is often down to planning: having a back-up stream computer, an extra stack of cables, or that trusty spare kit bag. These safety nets mean that when something does go off-script, the show still goes on — calmly and professionally.

Our role is to make sure you never feel the pressure, even when we’re adapting behind the scenes.

Dont Get Lost!

A well-crafted signal map — paired with clearly labelled cables — can dramatically reduce setup time and stress levels. For larger crews, especially those with siloed departments, it becomes an essential communication tool. It outlines exactly how each team integrates technically, creating a shared understanding before a single cable is plugged in.

In an ideal world, your crew should be able to walk in, consult the map, and begin building with minimal questions. It’s not just about efficiency — it’s about clarity. Plus, a signal map is a powerful way to communicate with venues ahead of time, giving them a clear picture of your requirements and helping to set realistic expectations from the start.

Stream Smart: Prep, Test, Repeat

Poor connectivity does more damage than simply causing your audience to disconnect from your stream.

While it may sound simple, performing at least three connection and speed tests before going live is crucial to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Packet loss can lead to interruptions, low bandwidth can impact the picture quality, and fluctuating bandwidth might cause pixelated or blocky visuals.

What you want is reliable, consistent bandwidth with no packet loss, and most venues can provide this upon request. This helps guarantee a high-quality stream that keeps your audience engaged.

Style is Substance

Whether you’re streaming for yourself or a client, you want your stream to feel cool and on-brand. Run private stream tests with your assets, are the font’s readable, does it feel in-line with the feel of the content, is there pre-approved client branding or sponsorships? Do you have all the layouts you could possibly need?

We highly recommend providing copies of assets to clients for approval as far ahead of your livestream as possible, giving your client plenty of time to request changes.

This helps to establish what the client can expect on the day as well as giving them plenty of opportunities to really make this livestream their own.

Final Thoughts

Our job is to pre-empt all those constituent parts which make up a ‘show’ and be ready. The more we can anticipate, the smoother the experience will be—for both the team behind the scenes and the audience watching. It builds an authenticity and trust, in whatever you’re doing, that regular marketing can’t always replicate. It humanises your brand, and it allows people to really connect to who you are and your message whilst bringing your audience in and giving them a voice in the conversation. So, if you’re thinking about live-streaming, start the conversation early. Bring your questions, your ideas, and even your wildest creative dreams. We dare you.
